St Joseph's Hectorville School Hall, Montacute Road 5073

Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS) are basic movements such as running, jumping, throwing, and catching that form the foundation for more complex physical activities. Developing these skills during childhood is crucial as they contribute to physical literacy, enhance physical activity engagement, and promote overall health and well-being.
Parents are not required to attend classes. Initio Sports will be responsible for your child during the session and will ensure they reach their classroom at SJH afterwards. Students in Reception will be escorted to their classroom.
The program has been developed in consultation with St Joseph's Hectorville Physical Education teachers, David May and Thomas Donnelly, and endorsed by Occupational Therapist Giacinta Arancio, ensuring a comprehensive approach to both cognitive and motor development. All three professionals will actively contribute to the delivery of the program.
Yes they can! We will arrange for your child to be picked up from OSHC and walked to the hall. Students must be booked in for OSHC for this day as usual if you wish for them to attend up to 7.50am.
Prioritising general fundamental sports training over early specialisation provides children with a well-rounded foundation that promotes physical, cognitive, and emotional growth. Mastering fundamental movement skills enhances children’s coordination, balance, and strength, while also boosting cognitive functions like memory and problem-solving. This broad-based skill set ensures that children can later specialize in any sport they choose, with the right tools and a deeper understanding of their own abilities. Moreover, it reduces the risk of injury, burnout, and frustration, ensuring that children not only excel in sports but enjoy lifelong engagement in physical activity. By focusing on mastering the basics, children are set on a path toward long-term success in both sport and academics.
Initio Sports will utilise baseline testing, provided by the SJH PE department, to customize sessions based on each child's individual needs. At the conclusion of the program, students will undergo a follow-up assessment to measure their progress. Assessment data will be shared with parents to ensure transparency and track development.
